The Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D24H) and The University of Sydney (USYD) jointly held a launching event today (November 10, 2021) to announce the official establishment of a global collaborative hub to address public health issues and improve individual healthcare that have been of global concern through artificial intelligence (AI) analytics and data-driven approaches.

Spoke at the event, Professor Duncan Ivison, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) of USYD, Professor Katherine Belov, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) of USYD, and Professor Gabriel Leung, Managing Director and Chief Scientific Officer of D24H, reiterated the core mission and vision of the collaborative research hub, and envisaged a positive impact on global entrepreneurship and public interest.

Led by Dr Tommy Lam, Lead Scientist of D24H, and Professor Edward Holmes, Professor at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences of USYD, the research team will create and harness tools to process biomedical data and novel computational approaches to solve major challenges in risk prediction for infectious diseases.

Other areas of expertise of the hub will be to develop state-of-the-art techniques in meta-genomics to help identify microbes in animals and humans leading to disease outbreaks and develop software for quickly analysing that data. This part of work will be directed by Dr Joshua Ho, Lead Scientist of D24H, and Professor Jean Yang, Professor at the School of Mathematics and Statistics of USYD.
